X.COMM is a privately owned
company, formed in 1987, to market established dial-up communications
software in the UK. Initially, X.COMM
provided products for Async dial-up to IBM mainframes and
AS/400's across X.25 Public Data Networks.
By the early 90's it was clear that access to the IBM systems
in isolation was no longer enough. The enormous growth in
Local Area Networks and the move towards LAN based applications
meant that it was desirable, if not essential, that dial-up
services should provide access to the LAN. Analysis of market
requirements identified that there was no single product or
technology that was going to satisfy everybody. Some would
require the speed of ISDN while others needed the ubiquity
of PSTN. Some applications were data intensive while others
were screen intensive. With the knowledge gained through experience,
X.COMM became early promoters
of Shiva, Citrix, US Robotics and Eicon.
Now we are firmly in the new Millenium, the prevalence of
the Internet and the increasing availability of Broadband
services bring more options to the remote business user. The
Information Age has well and truly dawned. But with this golden
age comes a more invidious and faceless crime. Hacking! Loss
of data can mean the difference between success or failure
for most businesses. Without a well defined and implemented
security policy all businesses are vulnerable.
X.COMM has continued to research
and build a comprehensive portfolio of products to meet these
diverse needs. These products have been carefully selected
from leading vendors so as to offer a choice of solutions
for most applications. Increasingly, our portfolio focus is
on protecting the boundary of the network from all forms of
malicious attack.
Today, XCOMM remains firmly
involved at the forefront of current and future secure remote
access technologies and is committed to ensuring that our
customers reap the benefits of our experience.
