Direct Dialling Inward (DDI)
DDI is the most effective method for automatic inbound fax
routing, as each user has an individual fax number. An Ascom
fax router is required in addition to the FaxPress server
for DDI. The Ascom fax router uses a EuroISDN Basic Rate connection
to the phone network, either direct or via a PABX. The EuroISDN
network supplies DDI information associated with each incoming
call, indicating which number was actually dialled by the
caller, and the Digital Fax Router passes this to the fax
server at the start of the call. The fax server uses its look-up
table associating DDI codes with users to alert the right
user, in the right way. For example, whenever the user next
logs on, and wherever he logs on from, he can be alerted to
the presence of his incoming faxes.
