Shiva was acquired by Intel Corporation in October 1998, becoming part of the Intel Network Products Division and emphasis was placed on the VPN products. However, in January 2001 Intel announced the end-of-life for the Shiva LanRover family of products. The ensuing eighteen months saw the demise of the remaining Shiva product range. On October 16, 2002, Intel Network Systems Inc sold both the Shiva brand name and the two remaining VPN Gateway products to Simple Access, Inc.

With its breadth of products, services and partnerships, combined with a singular focus on remote access, Shiva had become the vendor of choice for millions of network managers worldwide. Today, Shiva products are still in operation and XCOMM remains committed to supporting organisations who wish to continue using their Shiva equipment.
