Firmware supported
- All future ShivOS releases, starting with ShivOS 5.4,
will work with the LanRover Access Switch DPS and single
power supply chassis
- The LanRover Access Switch DPS chassis and the 10/100
Ethernet Card require ShivOS 5.4 or later.
Memory Requirement for LanRover Access Switch DPS & 10/100
Ethernet Card
- 12MB of DRAM is required to run LanRover Access Switch
DPS and 10/100 Ethernet Card with ShivOS 5.4
- The LanRover Access Switch DPS units will begin shipping
with 20MB of DRAM to allow for future Home Gateway functionality
without additional memory upgrades
All LanRover Access Switches purchased after September 22,
1997 contain 12MB of memory, units purchased previous to that
date contain 8MB of memory.
To determine how much memory is currently in your LanRover
Access Switch, from the command shell, use the "show version"
shell command. A memory upgrade kit is available.
For information and pricing on the memory upgrade kit
please call one of our sales persons on 01883 730055 or email
our sales department (sales@xcomm.co.uk).
Flash Requirements for 10/100 Ethernet Card
- 10/100 Ethernet Card requires ShivOS 5.4 flash or later.
To verify the version of flash in the unit from the command
shell, "show flash"
Protected VROM needs to be ShivOS 5.4 or greater
- All units (single and dual power supply) leaving Shiva
with ShivOS 5.4 will have the new flash (starting April
10, 1998)
10/100 Ethernet and LanRover D56
- 10/100 card will begin shipping with the LanRover D56
- There are currently no new memory requirements for the
LanRover D56
- LanRover D56 units will begin shipping with 20MB of memory
on May 15
Capacity of LanRover Access Switch DPS
The LanRover Access Switch DPS currently supports the following
capacity
- Maximum of 4 Shiva Dual or Single T1/E1 PRI Cards - allows
for 120 digital ISDN calls
- Maximum of 6 Digital Modem Cards - allows for 72 analog
calls
- Maximum of 600 virtual connections, increased from 300
in ShivOS 4.5.7.
Please note, there are a maximum of 8 slots for the T1/E1/PRI
Cards and DMC cards, for example, with 4 T1/E1/PRI Cards only
4 DMC cards can be supported.
The capacity of the D56 does not change. Depending on the
configuration purchased there is a maximum of 24 analog calls
and 30 IDSN calls.
Future Capacity of LanRover Access Switch DPS
The LanRover Access Switch DPS, with the release of the high
density digital modem cards, will support the following capacity
(end of Q3)
- Maximum of 240 digital ISDN Calls, assumes 8 Shiva Dual
or Single T1/E1/ PRI Cards
- Maximum of 144 (T1)/ 160 (E1) Analog calls, assumes 5
32-Up cards, 3 Dual T1/E1/PRI Cards
Features, Functions and Benefits - LanRover Access Switch

| Dual Power Supply |
Both 300 Watt power supplies
will work at the same time through load sharing. If a
power supply fails, then there will be automatic switch-over
to the working power supply. That power supply will handle
the full load indefinitely. The power supplies are not
hot swappable. The power supplies are power factor corrected
(future requirement in Europe). |

so no adjustment to set up is required |
Standard with the LanRover Access
Switch DPS Allows end to end 100 Ethernet capability on
customer's network High capacity will kick in with higher
densities (including 120 ISDN calls) |
| Improved Cooling |
Cooling is divided into two main
zones, Module Zone and Power supply Zone. Two cooling
Zones prevents re-circulation of pre-heated air. Main
Zone: Cooling with 2 large fans located at the rear of
the unit, such that air is pulled front to back. Power
Supply Zone: Each power supply has its own smaller fan
and is located next to perforated sides. This encourages
mixing of hot and cool air. |
Dual fans provide redundancy
Increased cooling for future high power consumption additions.
Pulling gives an extremely uniform air distribution (less
turbulence), which eliminates hot spots. This compares
to a pushing air flow system, where one finds hot and
cool air spots due to the greater turbulence and pressure
build up. |
| Front Connections |
All cable connections are in
front of unit. |
Ease of use for network managers
and administrators. |
